PORTABLE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS OR WHEELED FIRE EXTINGUISHERS?
Fire extinguishers can be classified according to the total mass of the extinguishing agent contained in the extinguisher. Fire extinguishers weighing up to 20 kg are portable fire extinguishers and can be used by a single operator to put out a starting fire. Fire extinguishers weighing more than 20 kg are wheeled fire extinguishers and need wheels to be transported. They can be used by two operators to extinguish an already developed fire.
To put out a fire principle, portable fire extinguishers must be used as soon as possible; if the fire has already spread, call the fire brigade. Wheeled fire extinguishers last longer and operate more powerfully than portable ones; therefore they can extinguish a larger surface area.
The operating time is the time in which the extinguishing agent is projected continuously, with the valve fully open and without considering the remaining auxiliary gas. This time must respect the standard values, indicated in the following notes:
FOAM: RATED CHARGE → 50 L OPERATING TIME (SECONDS) → FROM 35 TO 50
POWDER: RATED CHARGE → 30kg – 50-kg – 100kg OPERATING TIME (SECONDS) → FROM 30 TO 40 – FROM 35 TO 45 – FROM 45 TO 60
CARBON DIOXIDE: RATED CHARGE → 18kg – 27kg OPERATING TIME (SECONDS) → FROM 20 TO 25 – FROM 20 TO 30
