IG-100 inert gas fire extinguishing system
Product Details
Type: Fire protection services
Inert gas fire extinguishing system IG 100 is a type of fire extinguishing system that uses inert gas to suppress fire. IG 100 uses 100% nitrogen (N2) as extinguishant.
The IG 100 inert gas fire-fighting systems find more applications in sensitive environments where the preservation of material assets and the safety of people are of extreme importance. Some of the major applications of these plants are:
- Server rooms and data centres: IG 100 inert gas fire extinguishing systems are particularly suitable for the protection of server rooms and data centres, where the interruption of service could cause significant financial damage.
- Research labs: Research labs can contain highly flammable, high-value materials that require high-precision fire protection.
- Museums, archives and art galleries: these environments often house objects of inestimable historical, cultural and artistic value which require delicate and non-invasive fire protection.
- Industrial and manufacturing areas: Industrial and manufacturing areas can contain expensive and delicate equipment that requires fire protection that does not damage the equipment or production processes.
- High value buildings: High value buildings, such as high-rise buildings for example, can be protected by IG 100 inert gas fire systems, which offer an efficient and aesthetically discreet solution.
- Public spaces: theatres, concert halls and cinemas are some of the public spaces that can be protected by an IG 100 inert gas fire-fighting system, in order to guarantee the safety of the people who frequent them.
In general, IG 100 inert gas fire systems are suitable for any environment requiring highly effective, non-invasive fire protection.
The operation of the system takes place through the introduction of inert gas into the environment to be protected, through special pipes and nozzles at controlled pressure. The inert gas reduces the oxygen concentration in the environment, which is necessary for combustion, and extinguishes the fire. Inert gases work by total saturation of the environment (Total Flooding), reducing the concentration of oxygen in the protected room to the point where combustion can no longer be sustained (typically around 10-12%)
Among the advantages of this type of fire-fighting system are the speed of intervention, the safety of people, the absence of harmful residues for health and the environment and compatibility with the use of electronic and precision equipment, which they would not be damaged by the use of water or other extinguishing agents.
The IG 100 Inert Gas Fire System consists of several components that work together to provide comprehensive fire protection. Below is a list of the main components and their functions:
- Battery of 200/300 Bar high pressure cylinders and 80/140 liter capacity, firmly fixed to the wall or floor: steel cylinders which contain the high pressure IG 100 inert gas mixture. It is placed in an area adjacent to the protected area.
-Distribution pipes: these are stainless steel pipes that connect the gas cylinders to the diffuser nozzles. They are designed to withstand high velocity inert gas pressure.
- Nozzles discharge nozzles: these are devices that distribute the inert gas IG 100 in the protected environment. They can be installed on the wall or ceiling, depending on the layout of the protected area. They are evenly placed in the protected volume.
- Pressure reducer, i.e. a calibrated orifice capable of lowering the pressure downstream of the manifold to values of approximately 50-60 bar peak
- Control unit: it is an electronic device that controls the entire electronic system of the fire-fighting system. The control box activates the fire extinguishing system if a fire is detected.
- Smoke and heat detectors: these are devices that detect the presence of smoke or heat in the protected environment. When the detectors detect the presence of fire, they send a signal to the control box.
- Alarm system: it is a system which warns people present in the protected area of the imminent activation of the fire-fighting system.
- Overpressure damper, mounted on the external wall of the room or the door, in order to evacuate the overpressure that is created when the gas is introduced into the environment.
Biogenesis Srl deals with the design, installation and maintenance of the IG 100 inert gas fire-fighting system. Furthermore, the hydraulic calculation of the pipes is carried out with approved and validated software with experimental tests, as required by the standard.
The installation of the IG 100 inert gas fire extinguishing system requires careful planning to ensure the effectiveness of the fire extinguishing system. The installation of the fire system is performed by our experienced and certified professionals, who are able to install the system to meet the specifications of the fire code and safety regulations.
Furthermore, the installation will also be accompanied by correct staff training on the use and maintenance of the system.
Our company supplies a complete package of products and services to guarantee the correct maintenance of gas extinguishing systems, which is of vital importance to ensure their efficiency and maintenance of safety conditions over time. In particular, we take care of the state-of-the-art commissioning and maintenance of gas fire-fighting systems of this type, offering the customer a complete and reliable solution.
